Summary

This is what we used for white in red-white-blue-report 3-break shells at the All-American display at last year’s PGI convention. It is a nice neutral white and doesn’t overpower the non-metal red and blue chlorate stars used in the other breaks. It is only slightly modified (by adding dextrine in the modern manner) from the composition used for white stars by Southby at Woolwich c. 1850. -Mike Swisher Original Weingart’s formula #1 for white cut, pumped, or candle stars: Saltpetre 50 (60%) Sulphur 15 (18%) Red arsenic 15 (18%) Dextrine 3 ( 4%)
